I enjoyed this webisode a lot. I saw Harakari at the Detroit Institute of Arts at least a decade ago as part of a weekend samurai film festival called “Samurai Madness,” which also included Samurai Rebellion, Sword of Doom, and Kill!. I remember Harakiri being my least-favorite of the four films, but your discussion makes me want to buy the DVD and try it again I think the star of Harakiri also starred in both High and Low and Ran, although when I saw ran back in the mid-eighties, I had no familiarity with that actor. If you’re looking for more non-kurosawa Japanese movies (maybe even for the show) you might want to check out Sword of Doom, Sword of the Beast, the Zatoichi series of movies, as well as Sword of Vengeance, the first of the Lone Wolf and Cub movies.

Looking forward to your getting to Seven Men from Now. That’s the first of the Randolph Scott/Budd Botticher westerns, which are almost as good as the Jimmy Stewart/Anthony Mann westerns.
