Popeye (1980)

Mistakes were made. When I had realized the late great Robert Altman was in fact the director of this weeks "film" ... and having just watched The Long Goodbye ... I thought to myself:

Self, how can you NOT put Popeye on the list. I could sit through it again ... I think. I mean its Robert Altman. Maybe I'll have a new found appreciation for what is arguable not a great movie. I was inarguable wrong.

There isn't much more to say. The film is notoriously bad and for good reasons. Altman couldn't save it. Williams couldn't save it. And Shelley Duvall playing the role she was clearly born to play is yet still not enough to make this musical (and holy mother of god do I use the term musical lightly) watchable.

Also Andrew shuts down what I thought was going to be an interesting political discussion between the two of us to talk about some random movies he watched on a plane or something ......

In this weeks webipod I was under the assumption that I'd be introducing Andrew to a film that he would love. Well maybe not love but like. Well maybe not like but wouldn't hate. Turns out it was a mix of all three. Mission accomplished?

Join us as we watch Dragonslayer!!! ... without all the exclamations.

Not much to say about this one honestly. Slightly better than average 80's fantasy film starring that guy from Ally McBeal and NUMB35627RS ... you know ... him. (Peter MacNicol)

Also I talk about the day I met the smartest man alive and Andrew drones on about some other nonsense who cares just listen.

Let me tell you Search for Schlock listeners this weeks webipod was a breeze. (Never mind the late posting ... all will be addressed in episode)
After having to sit through last weeks horror (I don't even want to talk about it scroll down if you didn't listen to that one) it was a pure joy watching Seven Men from Now. A decidedly "better than average western" ... which is high praise coming from the likes of Andrew. Randolph Scott and Lee Marvin give us a delightful tale of good old fashion revenge in this some what cookie cutter yet charming film. Also witty banter and an attempt to talk about topical current events ... enjoy!
